Chef Job Description

A yacht chef is a professionally trained culinary expert in charge of guest and crew meals, provisioning, and complete management of the Galley. A Chef is awarded for using top quality ingredients, where dishes with distinct flavors are prepared to a consistently high standard. Positions, and number of chefs in the galley depends on the yacht's size and range from Head Chef, Sous Chef, Crew Chef, Galley Hand to Pastry Chef. Superyacht guests attend and eat at high-end restaurants; therefore, expectations can be extremely high. ​

Key Responsibilities: 

• Creating outstanding meals for the guest 
• Adapt to different dietary requirements  

• High standards of hygiene and cleanliness of the galley 
• Daily menu planning 
• Galley inventories and provisioning 
• Galley administration and accounting 
• In charge of crew meals onboard 

• Budget management 
• Works closely with Chief Stew to ensure unforgettable meal service 
• Managing a team of Chefs (depending on the yacht size) 

Required Skills: 

• Creativity and presentation skills 

• Menu planning 
• Diverse knowledge of produce and the ability to provision in different countries 
• Able to handle criticism  
• Effective communication skills 
• Positive attitude 

• Organisational and time management skills. 
• Cleanliness and Hygiene 
• Able to work under pressure 
• Knowledge of nutrition, diets and allergies, food safety and storage. ​​
